Our partners play a crucial role in helping fulfill our mission by providing essential resources, expertise, and opportunities. They enable us to offer exceptional care to our animals and deliver enriching programs to our community. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and belief in our vision. Together, we strive to create a lasting impact and continue to make Serenity Stables a place where dreams are nurtured and realized.

Voices of Partners

When I first learned about Serenity Stables and the work they were doing with equine-assisted therapy, I was thrilled by the opportunity it presented for the mothers in our program. I immediately reached out to Christine, and she graciously visited our facility to share more about how this powerful therapeutic approach could support recovery. Our patients were inspired to learn about a new tool that could aid their sobriety, healing, and mental well-being.

While we were all excited about the potential, none of us could have anticipated the profound impact it would have.

I have witnessed clients arrive at Serenity Stables feeling uncertain about their recovery, some unsure if sobriety was even possible. Yet, during the ride back, those same individuals often speak with awe about how much the experience moved them. One woman, whose leg was trembling uncontrollably from anxiety, found calm the moment she was near the horses, her breathing deepened, and the shaking stopped. Another, just last month, arrived terrified of horses. With Christine’s gentle guidance, she progressed from fearfully keeping her distance to calmly approaching and connecting with the largest horse in the pasture. It was a transformative moment.

Each time we visit Serenity Stables, the response is overwhelmingly positive. Our patients consistently express gratitude, not just to us, but to Christine and the horses. These sessions are among their most cherished experiences. The peacefulness of the environment provides a rare sense of calm in their often-chaotic lives. It brings stillness where there is inner turmoil, breath where there has been breathlessness, and hope where it was beginning to fade.

The unique value Serenity Stables brings lies not only in the equine-assisted recovery work itself but in the way it connects deeply with the human spirit. Christine offers more than a service, she offers a sanctuary. I am deeply grateful that our patients have access to this extraordinary resource. It has touched their recovery journeys in ways words often cannot fully capture.
The impact Serenity Stables has on the men here at Harbor Light is unlike anything I have seen before. These men, that are at the start of their recovery journey and are unsure of what the future holds for them, look forward to seeing Christine and her horses every week. This is impactful for men who have known addiction most of their lives or are coming out of the corrections system. To see the excitement in their eyes, is powerful as to what Serenity Stables has done for these men. The men can be open and honest in a safe environment, while being surrounded by well-behaved animals. After the program that Christine has set up for the clients, they talk about how much it affected them, not just in their recovery walk, but in their personal growth as well. The men take away more than just a chance to pet horses, they have a place to express themselves.

Through Serenity Stables, these men have been able to take away life lessons, practices and new ways of looking at situations that they did not have before. They experience how something as simple as petting a horse can bring them into a better mindset, and at the same time, dive deep into their emotions for the first time in recovery. This is a unique form of therapy that everyone should try at some point in their lives. It is surreal how calming a big animal like a horse can have on men that struggle with the basic forms of emotions.

Serenity Stables has made an impact on the relapse prevention education we provide here at Harbor Light. They have become part of our program, and we would be at a hinderance without them. Not only have they made an impact on the men going through recovery, but on the staff here as well. The work Christine is doing with these horses, is truly unique and powerful to men in early recovery. She has been a blessing to so many people.
It is with great enthusiasm that I offer this testimonial on behalf of Serenity Stables Foundation and the extraordinary impact their programming has had on the clients of Over The Rainbow Project.

As a behavioral health organization serving LGBTQIA2+ individuals, formerly incarcerated persons, and people in early recovery, we often work with clients who have experienced profound trauma and systemic marginalization. Traditional therapeutic approaches are not always sufficient or accessible for these populations, which is why our partnership with Serenity Stables has been so transformative.

The equine-assisted services provided by Serenity Stables offer a healing modality unlike any other. Our clients frequently describe their time at the stables as grounding, empowering, and emotionally restorative. These sessions help them rebuild trust, process trauma somatically, and engage in nonverbal self-regulation practices that support long-term sobriety. For individuals with complex PTSD, identity-based trauma, or anxiety around clinical environments, this setting is not only therapeutic—it’s essential.

We’ve witnessed meaningful changes in those who participate. Clients return from sessions calmer, more focused, and increasingly hopeful. One young transgender woman in our program described Serenity as “the one place I could just be—without explaining myself.” That safety and peace directly fuels her recovery.

The unique value of Serenity Stables lies in its accessibility, cultural sensitivity, and holistic approach to healing.
Serenity Stables provides a unique experience for our residential clients at Sobriety House. Every four weeks we take our phase 1 residents for an outing to experience equine therapy. This allows our phase 1 clients to engage with Christine and her horses at least once during their treatment.

The outing to the stables helps our clients to get out and enjoy nature, providing them with a break from traditional therapeutic and psychoeducational groups. This is something clients look forward to and has become a staple in our schedule.

Christine does an excellent job of explaining the Heart Science and physiological benefits of equine therapy. Clients get the opportunity to meet the horses and engage with them. Sobriety House clients consistently provide emotional connection and positive experiences from visiting the stables.

Serenity Stables is unique to the recovery community in the Denver Metro area, clients get the chance to visit a rural area and experience a unique aspect of healing and connecting to themselves in their recovery.
Serenity Stables has been an invaluable resource and integral part of clinical programming at Footprints to Recovery, Colorado. For the last three years, we have brought patients out to the barn on a bi-weekly basis as part of PHP programming, to work with Christine and her horses to explore issues related to trust, trauma, and self-worth; all barriers many face in sustaining a life free of substance use. The partnership with Christine and Serenity Stables has been “transformative” and has deepened the impact of continued treatment for the duration of their stay with us. Christine’s knowledge and lived experience contribute to her ability to bond with the patients with ease, guiding them through each session with empathy. We are so grateful for this partnership and look forward to continued collaboration with Serenity Stables in years to come.
